More Good Fundraiser Seeks Support in Growing Charity that Promotes Food, Community and Impact

MORE GOOD today announces a fundraising appeal to raise a total of HK$4.5 million by March 2023. The funds will enable the newly-registered charity to expand its work in offering nutritious meals to communities in need in Hong Kong. Hong Kongers can find out more and contribute to the fundraiser at www.moregoodhk.com

As part of its 2023 activities, MORE GOOD seeks to fully leverage its deep connections within the food and hospitality industry to deliver more hands-on learning opportunities surrounding healthy cooking for volunteers, who in turn will be mobilised to prepare nutritious “MORE GOOD MEALS” for communities in need. MORE GOOD also hopes to be able to extend its food and hospitality expertise to other charities and cause-related campaigns as part of its community outreach.

“We see ourselves as a community of collaborators who can combine our knowledge and resources in F&B, Education and Philanthropy to make a positive impact in Hong Kong,” said MORE GOOD Co-founder and spokesperson, BRIAN FUNG. “MORE GOOD MEALS sees a way of bringing together the F&B industry, individuals and NGOs to address how underprivileged communities in Hong Kong lack access to daily nutritious meals, and we tackle the problem through education and food assistance programmes.”

MORE GOOD MEALS TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO NUTRITIOUS MEALS

MORE GOOD has been preparing high-quality meals for communities in need since January 2022. The Charity surveyed 225 registrants in Chai Wan before it began bi-weekly “MORE GOOD MEALS“ distributions at Yue Wan Estate, revealing that close to 85 per cent of the respondents (188) have had to forgo the use of fresh ingredients in their daily diets due to their financial situations.

Close to three-quarters of the respondents reported an income of less than HK$5,000 within their household unit, among which only 7 per cent rated their family unit’s nutritional intake as satisfactory. The homeless and refugee communities served by MORE GOOD’s charity partners similarly face a shortage of nutritious foods, and may also have to overcome additional challenges such as a lack of storage and cooking facilities.

Within its first year of operations, MORE GOOD has donated more than 15,700 free meals to Chai Wan, as well as to Jordan, Sheung Wan and Tai Kok Tsui via charity partners ImpactHK, Refugee Union and Justice Centre. With the HK$4.5 million funding, MORE GOOD hopes to increase volunteering sessions by 65 per cent and annual meal donations by 137 per cent compared to last year.

MORE GOOD 2023 FUNDRAISER

To kick off its fundraiser, MORE GOOD will host a KEEP THE LIGHTS ON PARTY on Saturday, 4 February 2023 at their Chai Wan events space. The full-day event will mark the organisation’s official charity status as well as celebrate the volunteer community’s achievements so far. Guests can enjoy a welcome drink and complimentary snacks prepared by MORE GOOD Co-founder & Yardbird Co-founder, MATT ABERGEL & MORE GOOD Chef MIKE SILVA for a donation of HK$388.

MATT ABERGEL will enlist the help of chefs AGUSTIN FERRANDO BALBI (ANDO) and RICARDO CHANETON (MONO) to host a KEEP THE LIGHTS ON GALA family-style fundraiser on Sunday, 26 February 2023. The six-hands dinner – asking for a donation of HK$5,000 per seat – will look to recreate elevated versions of the three Michelin-Starred Chef’s family recipes.

Those looking for additional ways to support MORE GOOD’s meaningful cause can consider hosting their own private, corporate and team-building events at the Charity’s space. Hong Kongers can also offer their time with meal preparations and meal distributions. Volunteer opportunities are inclusive of all cooking abilities and are available for those aged 12 and up.

MORE GOOD also announces a year-long partnership with ambassador AGUSTIN FERRANDO BALBI who will be organising monthly volunteer sessions out of his restaurant ANDO, bringing fellow celebrity chefs to cook for more good throughout 2023.
